Overgeneralisation – You see a single negative event as a never ending pattern on defeat. Phrases like “you always” or “you never” exemplify overgeneralisation.
I’m guilty of this one too…
Things never go right, things like this always happen to me…
My work is never good enough.
The list goes on.
This is a tricky one to get out of. When a negative event happens, it is hard to see anything else, and much easier to generalise that situation to everything! Definitely not beneficial for my health to do this though!
I too am guilty. But I am working to be mindful of phrasing and words. xx
Check. I have a funny feeling as when I was doing CBT last time I’ll be with you on nearly every one of these distortions. Though this one…I am managing to still tackle a lot of the time (see didn’t over generalise! lol) xox
Go you! seems like you made lots of progress, hope I will too! xxx
i could win an award for this one too…thank you for sharing that, it will make me think next time i go there. xo
Glad this was helpful! xx
me too
how are you today?
Not too good unfortunately. I have been procrastinating all day, so yet again I left left my work until late at night… oops! I have my CBT tomorrow, so I hope it will be a useful session! Thanks for asking – how are you? xx
i’m sorry you’re going through such pain. be gentle with yourself, and rest.
i hope it is really helpful for you.
i’m good xo
Thanks Zoe
